Default odontomantis planiceps - Adult Asian Ant mantis

The breeder i get the mantis from is about to make a book.he wants some of my pics for the book and also wanted me to shoot the ant mantis for him.these arnt the final pics but i thought i would show u them any way..this thing is tiny! at adult odontomantis planiceps (Asian Ant mantis) measures just under 1 inch 23mm..This is a very tiny mantis and caused me big problems when shooting it..mainly because i want a full frame face shot and with a mantis that small i would need to be at 4:1 or if im really lucky 5:1..the other problem i hav is this mantis dont stay stil and excells in flying and jumping,it keeps jumping on to my lens..lol

All lovely shots but think the background in the first two shows off the colour better.
Congrats on use of the photos- make sure you get something in return (free mantids for life ?)

I like the inquisitive look in the second shot.

Congrats MJ on going to be publishd. Second shot is the best of the bunch. The blue background suits the mantis very well.
