Default My first post -- light & tree

Hey guys, I just stumbled upon this forum and WOW -- i've already spent 10+ hours looking at some of the incredible work on here.

I've just recently gotten into photography; I've had a Canon Powershot for about 4 years now, but it wasn't until 6 months ago that I bought a real camera. I'm shooting with a Canon EOS 400D and a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and I'm absolutely loving it. There's so much to learn & do, I really do think I've found myself a lifetime hobby

Anyway, here's one of my first forrays into HDR photography. Comments and criticism welcomed

HDR well done! I like how the heavens are shining a spotlight on the tree!

That looks amazing! The grey clouds with the light rays breaking through really adds depth. That shot is truely amazing

I like the composition, but I don't care for the "HDR treatment" here. Welcome to POTN, BTW!

Thanks for the kind words, guys

Mike, what are you referring to when you say 'HDR treatment'? HDR was the only way I could capture the rays of sunlight like that, and still get some color and detail in the foreground. Am I missing something?

How many exposures did you take and what program did you use?

The reason I'm asking is the foreground (tree mostly) looks a little dark for HDR....

Love the composition though...fantastic set up....I would have liked a little more detail on the tree but overall a great shot

it was 3 exposures.

it was storming for a half-hour or so, so the sky was very dark. I was driving along the road and saw the sun burst through the clouds in that one spot; slammed on the brakes, ran across the road into the field with my camera and tripod & just started shooting

For an HDR, it isn't bad, but it has that gray look that most HDRs have. Also as an HDR it looks too dark in the shadows.
