Default S30 Battery

I have just purchased a compatible battery, (not original from canon) for my S30, and just would like to know who else has tried other batteries apart from the normal canon orginal ones.

One thing...the original one is 5.7, but the one I bought is 7. something....does this just give the battery more power, and therefore last longer??

I purchased a non-Canon battery before our trip to Yellowstone. No problems what-so-ever. It runs at 7.2 volts and 600mAh. My guess is it doesn't last quite as long, but I don't have any proof. So far I can't tell which battery I have in it.

Yep, more mAh means longer life. So both of your batteries should last longer than the Canon NB-2L.

Star, did you buy the VidPro battery? That's the only one I know of at 700 mAh.

Yeah, that's the VidPro battery. Same specs, but I think Star's talking about another brand. I'm just curious about who's making stuff for the S30.

Hi,

Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with
the Vidpro 700mah battery on the S30?
Are you aware of any issues with recharging using the
Standard Canon recharger sold with the S30?

Thanks,

Alok.

I bought the Vidpro from Batterybarn at the end of July. I must have been the unluckiest guy at the time. They kindly delivered it to my hotel in Miami so I could collect it on my way through to Cozumel. I charged it up and it did not hold the charge. On the way back I posted it to Batterybarn when I was in NYC for a stopover.

They have been extremely helpful, replaced it and sent the replacement to a friend in NYC. Now I am waiting for a colleague who is in NYC first week of Nov to bring it back to the UK for me.

Batterybarn do not ship outside the US and if they did the UK customs charges would be prohibitive.

Despite my experience Batterybarn have been exemplary in handling this. I would recommend them solely on their aftersales service.

I bought a non-canon branded NB-2L and noticed that it is 7.2v as opposed to 7.4v on my original canon branded one. The mAh is both 570.

Does the voltage difference matter or will it mess up my S30?
