Default Underwater Housings

Anybody know a good Inexpensive underwater housing for a canon XTi? Not going deep but just something to keep my camera dry underwater.

Thanks,

Greatshot

Disposable underwater P&S. I've read many a horror story about "airtight, guaranteed" housings that did not deliver. I guess the question you have to make sure about is: if it fails and the camera is damaged, how many tears will you cry?

I've heard of some success from products from ewa-marine (http://www.ewamarine.com/index.php?id=49). You should check scubaboard.com or wetpixel.com to get some opinions though.

It sounds like you aren't diving so it should be fine as long as you are thorough with checking for leaks. On our recent trip to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the divemaster suggested dunking it in a tub of water for an initial 3-second check, and a subsequent 30-second check.

We used an Ikelite housing for the first time which was effective, but definitely not inexpensive.

Edit: Hmm... just did a quick search. Madweasel (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=385564) doesn't like the ewa product, but another poster on scubaboard (http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/arc...p/t-84945.html) likes it very much. Good luck!

What exactly are you planning to do? If you're just looking for snorkeling shots, I'd seriously recommend looking at a P&S in OEM housing, like the Canon A series. They do a good job in shallow depths and are reliable.

I *strongly* discourage anyone from taking a DSLR underwater in a baggie. I don't care if the EWAs are "designed" for this - there are too many failures and flooded cameras. If you do opt to go this route, be sure you're insured for water damage.

For a full diving rig, the least expensive decent quality would be the Ikelite housings.

Canon P&S with Canon housing
I have used two and they both worked fine for what I wanted to do.

There are 2 ways to do it, one is cheap and may lead you to end up shopping for another camera, the other is expensive and may also lead you to shop for another camera, but not because the first method caused your camera to drown. Unless you want to spend well over $1000 then buy a P & S and the inexpensive housing for it.

I am planning on going out and shooting surfing pics with it and stuff like that.
