Hi everybody!
Ive been reading this forum for some months and decided to post some of my pictures. I took these pics few weeks ago and had no idea how difficult ice hockey photography can be. I know few pics are little bit OOF so I have to be more carefull next time. These were taken with 30D + 70-200 IS. I ran files through neat image and did some color adjustment. I know PP is one more area I need to study Anyways, C&C are more than welcome Cheers, Vesa 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() |

Thanks for the comments.
I used custom white balance which I took of the ice. I did some corrections to the images so there should not be too much blown whites anymore. I really need to learn proper way to do color adjustment so I dont ruin the images |

You timed the action really well which is the most important part. The rest will come with practice. A good first attempt as the rink appears to be really dark.

very good shots, especially for a first go.
your rink has the common problem of inconsistent lighting, different colors in different spots, likely also "cycling" or changing colors over the cycle of AC current. look around the rink for the most representative spot, and shoot a longer time exposure for your CWB shot (an exact multiple of one whole AC cycle, in europe 1/50 or 1/25 sec). in photoshop there are a lot of ways to adjust. here's one that I use... hope this helps |

Thanks for the info David. The rink is very dark indeed. I just managed to get 1/500 speed with ISO 1600. Some areas are more dark than the others so it makes photography a bit tricky. Your theory about AC cycle is very interesting. We have 50 Hz system so taking CWB picture with shutter speed faster than 1/25 may cause some problems, as the cycle peak to peak time is 20ms. Have to try different speeds and check the pics if there is any difference
