Default What Have I done, Computer Help

Hi

I'm guessing there's gotta be some people on here who are good with all things computery.

I think I've done something but I don't know what. On this forum (don't really properly use any others) every time I go through my User CP or look at a thread I have previously viewed, it's only loading the previously viewed version until I physically refresh the page.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Simeon

Where are you coming in from? It's possible that you're behind what's called a "proxy server" and it's just feeding you the old page until you do the refresh. AOL, among other ISPs, uses proxy servers; many corporations do also.

Check some other sites, then. News sites aren't necessarily the best, as anyone using a proxy server will rapidly learn the site shouldn't be cached, but other message boards may see similar issues.

You can also try clearing the cache in your browser (which one, by the way?).

Contacted them? You might want to ask about this at Dr. Keyboard (disclosure - I hang out there, too), a UK-based computer support forum, to see if anyone else is having similar problems with other web sites.

Well I haven't noticed any problems on any other sites, though the other forums I frequent are much much quieter than here, and so there's not enough traffic to check there. That isn't to say the problem isn't still there though.

Have just cleared cache though it was only cleared a few days ago, and I'm just on here with IE7

Haven't yet no would be very very surprised to see them using a proxy though. Ok don't really have time right now, but I shall do soon.

One last note, my router just went on a brief blip, and the lappy automatically connected to a neighbours router, had a quick check and I'm still getting the same problems so it looks like it's the machine not the ISP.

We found IE7 so bad it was unloaded at work, but since I used to be (long ago) a web code slinger, this is what we put in our troubleshooter as step 1

From IE6, and I don't know where it is in IE7

Tools -> Options -> [tab] General -> Temporary Internet Files [button] Settings -> [radio button] Check For Newer Versions of Pages [X] Every Visit
