Default Outdoor Shot

Even though it's raining, I got a shot of the tree in my backyard...
It came out pretty plain and over exposed due to flash,
I took it into Corel PSPP XI and did some enhancing, it came out really well... but there was no center of focus in the picture, so I decided to do some selective coloring...
I really am happy with the way it came out, but I'm not sure if I over did it, did it just right, or didn't do it enough

If the second image were entirely in the grayscale you have for most of it, I would really think it was interesting. With the selective coloring, it just seems odd. Selective color should be used when adding to the story of the image IMO, and this doesn't to me.

Sorry if this is harsh.

Just to be clear - I really like the conversion for the majority of the photo. What did you do to get that effect?

Selective color, at least in your execution, does not work imo. The picture lacks interest and the processing does add anything to it.

To me, it just lacks intrest. My eyes just seem to wonder over the photo looking for something to grab ahold of.

Maybe you could try cropping it (if possible) so one of the corners has some dark background. Also, I wonder how this shot would look with a very shallow depth of field so only one or two branches are in focus and the rest is blurry.
