Default The Bass Player - Sexy Curves - Shots and a ?

This I thought would be a great opportunity to work with a backlit subject. The city where work has a "Concerts in the Park" series and I was working primarily with the 70-300 DO on my 10D. The promoter of the series asked me to EMail her a few shots to be used on the city's web site as well as brochures for next year's series.

Please, please, please critique the shots. Let me know what you like, and what you don't like. The city is trying to develop an artsy-fartsy image to draw and erudite crowd, and I know that they would do just fine without "representative" imagery. They're looking for something that displays the *feel* of the concert. Did I capture that?

So far, this is only the bass player, out of four band members. She, however, is the leader and headliner of the band therefore, I concentrated my attention on her.

On a practical notes, what is an appropriate fee structure for this sort of work? By the shot delivered? By the shot used? By the time involved?

Thank you,

Rad

I like #'s 1 and 2. I would have like to have seen some audience
participation in your shots that would have tranmittted their "feel" for
the concert through your images. I also would have liked to have seen
a group shot in action working together making their music. Your shots,
except for the first two, are a little too impersonal for my liking. I like
to see people having fun and good times. That's what gives me a "feel"
for something in which I would like to participate.

Hey did you run out of Magicubes? -Just kidding, couldn't help it. I like #1 the best. The silhouette has intention and purpose. #2 i find background a bit distracting. #3 too dark a mood, and the emanating white light from the top only seems to blend it even more, not creating a friendly environment for a silhouette. #4 I like the look of the worn out instrument, but the arm does not seem 'healthy' for lack of a better word. And #5, the coolness does provide a retro atmosphere, but I think passion -which I think she represents, would be best under warmth. But that's just me!

Yes, it sure was so. That is Jennifer York of (both) the Jennifer York Quartet and the traffic reporter on the Channel 5 Morning News. As it turns out, she is a childhood friend. She lived just down and around the street in Glendora when we were both in elementary school.

The first and fourth are very good IMHO. But I would like to add, that it doesn't convey a feeling about the band/ the concert to me. I've been to many concerts but it doesn't really have IT, ya know? I'm talking my opinion now because I'm probably not any better, I'll be having my first concert shoot next friday (not paid, just for myself).
I DO like the silhouettes though, even they do not convey the concert feeling to me, I think they might make stunning photos for a live CD booklet!

Cheers!
