hey guys
i just picked up three nikon sb28's, in addition to my 580ex/430ex/285HV. i am currently using poverty wizards aka cactus v2s' to trigger my flashes. since im on a budget, i dont want to purchase 3 more cactus recievers, since i doubt i will always have 6 flashes going at the same time. instead, will purchasing sync cables and tethering the nikon sb28's to the current cactus triggers work? thanks eric |

all that's happening down a sync/minijack/whatever you want cable is the contacts are shorting together. There is no reason why you cannot infinitely tether them

if i am using my flashes out doors, how effective are the ones you linked me to? |

Don't the nikon sb-28's have optical slave capability built in?

All those flash units have about the same sync Voltage, so you can run cords between the flash units and connect an inexpensive radio receiver to one (or more) of the flash units and fire them all.
This approach negates the cord between the camera and a flash unit, but not cords between the flash units. Loosing the cord between the flash and the camera is typically a lot bigger deal than running cords between flash units. If used within their design limitations, optical slaves are very reliable. No built in optical slaves in the SB-28 (but they are very nice flash units). Enjoy! Lon |

You can use the PC jack on the Cactus while you have a flash in the shoe mount. I replaced the PC jacks on mine with 1/8" mono jacks. That makes it easy to build my own syn/extension cords. I've tested it and it works just fine. With 3 receivers, you could easily fire all 6 flash units.

It was Jeremy Kuster's mods to these triggers that got me started on my mods. I decided to replace the PC jacks because of the "iffy" connection that they provided. I just unsoldered them, removed them and fitted the mono jacks in there. It's a tight fit! I didn't take any pictures during the operation, but I'll try to post some shots of the finished project soon. Meanwhile, check out Jeremy's mod page: http://jeremykuster.blogspot.com/200...tutorial.html]
