Default Tenba Inserts

On the Domke Insert update thread, a few people mentioned that they had ordered the Tenba Inserts. Has anyone recieved them, and if so, do you like them? Could you post pictures of them in your bag filled with gear?

Thanks.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks after finding out that the FA-230's were on backorder. I think that it works great with my F-802! I recently got the FA-230, but was disappointed that my L lenses won't fit very well in it.

I will see if I can post some pictures with the inserts inside the F-802.

just noticed on the Tenba site that the configuration of the dividers appears to have changed:

http://www.tenba.com/pc-965-12-photo...nger-bags.aspx

anyone have this one, as opposed to the older one with the two shorter inserts and one with half-circular cutout? Pictures?

Please do. I've been waiting for a decent review on this and the 803.

I just ordered this insert Monday.

I was able to go to B&H last weekend and they had the Tenba Messenger type bags on display. I had my camera and lenses with me, and they were nice enough to let me put some of my gear into the bag. The padding is very nice and seems to have a nice thick bottom. I think I will be able to carry a couple of average lenses and my 40D gripped.

I'm going to put the insert into a messenger bag I already have, so will take pictures when it arrives.

How are folks finding the Tenba inserts? I need to select an insert to go with my order for the F-803.

Sorry I forgot to follow-up on this thread when my insert arrived.

It is made very well. There is plenty of padding on all sides and the bottom. It came with about 4 dividers; 1 with the fold-over flap, 1 with the oval cut-out for a lens to rest on, and 2 other small dividers. I would recommend these inserts.

Thanks for the feedback Mischief. So you have encountered no problems fitting the large 2.8 zooms into and out of the inserts?

EDIT: Is the Tenba insert that you got different from this item: http://www.adorama.com/TBPDPI.html?s...sert&item_no=2

That is the insert I bought; I put it in a Fossil messenger bag. I'm at work right now, so will try to get some photos of it this evening.

My wide angle lenses fit fine. The 40D with the grip is just a little wider than the insert itself, but it works fine. I've mainly used it for gripped 40D w/ 17-55mm in the center, and 430EX and Sigma 10-20 in the end compartments. Both lenses have the hoods reversed.

Sorry for the delay in pics as well as a follow-up. I apologize for the quality of the pics, but I haven't used my Pro1 and almost forgot how to use it!

Domke F-802 with Tenba insert holding 20D+grip mounted with 70-200IS hood reversed, 40D+grip with 24-70L and 16-35L in the mddle. Yes, both cameras are in there with the grips attached and the 70-200 takes the 20D just high enough to barley clear the 40D!

Top view. As you can see with both grips on it makes the bag expand just a little, but it's still really comfortable to carry around.

WARNING!! For those of you that cringe when a camera touched anything other than your hands or the soft cradle of a bag then you need to look away now!!!

Let's look inside! Top camera is a 20D with 70-200L IS mounted and hood reversed. Bottom camera is 40D with 24-70L mounted with hood reversed. In one of the pockets I have the 580ex flash and the other has my Newton DiFR2 bracket with off shoe cord and camera straps.

Insert with cameras removed.

Insert removed to show relative size to Domke f-802

Only showing 3 of the 4 inserts that came with the Tenba. I think that I lost the other one

Compared to the Domke insert the Tenba provides more options as to how you can set up the inside of the bag and it can also hold the big L's as well (sorry Jon). I've had the Tenba in my F-802 for a few months and I don't think that I would want to take it out! As a matter of fact, when I finally got my Domke inserts I was somewhat disappointed in the size of the inserts, but decided to keep them anyway just in case there happens to be another Domke on the way!

Overall I would say that this combo is a winner! The only thing that I would make it perfect is if it could carry a 12" iBook with all the gear. Right now I have this as my all around carry bag and planning to get the F-804 later.

Mishchief: Thanks again for the feedback. I'd be more interested to hear about your Fossil messenger bag.

Toyguru: Many thanks for going to the trouble of posting such detailed pics. This is of great help to those of us still leaning towards the Domke F-802. I can now stop looking at the Urban Disguise 40.

EORI, no problem. I was meaning to post some pics. I was looking at the UD40 also, but it looked too much like luggage to me. I know that seems trivial, but oh well...

I also wanted to have my lenses mounted to cameras in the bag when I needed them as ti having the cameras not mounted.

This is awesome. Now I think I may finally get a Domke. Hopefully the bag isn't too big, although it looks it but we'll see. If it is, oh well, I can always return it or sell it.

Thanks for the review Toyguru. I too have been frustrated with the Domke insert situation and this is just what I'm looking for.
