We almost did not see this fellow, drive right past him one way, as he blended in with the crook in the fallen tree so well. He seemed totally unconcerned with our presence as well..

Not a Great shot, but what's a trip to Namibia without a photo of the largest bird in the world I ask you?

What about a Tawny Eagle?

The fabulously dressed Secretary Bird!
This was amazing and huge, imagine a bald eagle sized bird (and relative!) with legs as long as a GBH! Throw in a punk rock hair do and a crazy personallity to go with it, and voila!

Lastly, the "BlackSmith Plover" named for it's call, which sounds like the smiting of steel on an anvil..

Excellent series, I'm envious of the Owl out in the open but all are interesting subjects. Very nicely captured.

Extremely interesting subjects here, love that big bird and the owl. Maybe the wise owl can teach the big bird to fly? Could be a great team! The last two are incredible looking birds, and a pleasure to view.

Great series here. That owl however being so close to the ground is something else.

Thanks guys, the Secretary bird truly an oddity! It's behavior is amazing to watch. IT "stamps" around in the tall grass looking to scare critters out of hiding, it does this with a super intent look on its fact and it's mouth wide open.. it looks positively crazed!
