Default Flu shots

Hows the supply in your area of the U.S. ? I have decided to pass up on my shot this year to help contribute to the shots needed for Americans crossing the Canadian border for shots.
I'm not sure why I posted this but what the hell.

I doubt that by giving up your shot you'll be able to "stick it" to an American. The unused vial will likely be stuck into another Canadians arm.

Flu shots make the blood taste funny.

There has been a huge flue vaccin shortage in the U.S. and the Canadian borders have been flooded with Americans crossing into Canada to receive the shots. A huge part are people who cannot risk getting the flue such as the elderly and people with low immune systems. The government has been asking that people who are healthy and can go without to pass up on the shots so that they can be given to people who need them more.
Anyway, I'm sorry but I took the issue a little more seriously than you kids.

It is a serious subject here. I'd decided that this would be the year I started getting flu shots, and of course, there are none to be had. I'm told that I'm in a low rist age group. I'm 62. For some reason, my life is going to go to hell in three years and I will then be at risk. I'm hoping to be in Canada in late November, and if I haven't been able to get one here before then, I'll get it there if possible.

Sorry about that, but I guess the reason I don't take this flu shot too seriously is that recent studies in northern europe show that they only work on 25%. The rest will get the flu anyway.

At my work we can the flu shot for free these days but I have never received it because personally I don't think it works.

Some years ago, some people I know, got more ill from the flu shot than from flu itself That's one of the reasons I don't do it... But I guess it's become better since... (hope so)

I missed the free flu shots at work as well, and Iv been perfectly fine all winter, however several people who did get the shot still got some form of flu, and one ended up having time off.

I think the problem is that there is only one vacine, but lots of differnt virus's. So every year they predict which will be the most popular virus and choose the vacine that protects against it the best.
Of course it then only works if your only exposed to that particular strain of the flu.

So depending on where you are in the world and the lifestlye you live it might or might not work.

IMO if your fit and healthy then don't bother, but if your getting on a bit, going a bit grey shall we say, and not as fit as you used to be, prehaps showing a spare tyre, then getting it can't hurt. Unless your scared of needles.

I work at a hospital and the employees are always offered free flu shots (well, not this year, of course). I've been there 20 years now, and took the shot the first year. It made me sick. I haven't gotten one since then. I've never actually had the flu, either, so I guess I don't need it. (knock on wood)

I'm one of those who also got sick from the flu shot. It was a few years back and was free so I said what the heck. That night, I was so sick I couldn't even sit up. I wanted to replace what I had w/ the flu so badly I could have screamed.

I know people who swear by them including our kids doctor. Not for me!
