Default Recent dance productions in Calgary

Here are a few images from Dance Explosions and from Corps Bara Ripples in Calgary. The difficult thing about these images is the "modern" style of cross lighting. It is hard to set appropriate exposure to capture highlights as well as maintain decent tonality in the middle and lower tones. The examples below are not badly exposed - many more of the images have extreme tone ranges. The last image is more representative of the difficult lighting.

I am trying auto-exposure with some degree of success rather than manual exposure. Necessary exposure compensation varies from -2.5 EV to +1 EV (according to adjustment in Adobe Camera Raw). It seems plausible to set my camera to spot metering and dial in a -2/3 EV compensation. If anyone has any suggestions on how to expose this type of lighting using auto-exposure, please let me know

More images of Explosion can be seen on:

and from Ripples:

C&C welcome...

Very nice set. Last would have been better if the two on the right weren't covering each other. But that's about all I can say, apart from "wow"

I love your dance shots. When I grow up, I want to be able to take pics like those!! # 4 is spectacular. I showed them to my teenage daughter (dance is her life) and she loved them. Keep them coming. ... They inspire me to try different things when I capture images of my daughter!!!
