There!
The reason why i was confused was because when i did what you wrote the first time and saved that crop, i looked at its properties in windows and it still showed 3888x2592 pixels, not 800x800.
But second time i did it it showed 800x800 correctly :)
now that leaves the question about the original image in this post (uncropped), is that good enough?
All i did to that was convert to Jpeg and resize to 800X533 (to preserve the correct aspect ratio)

That crop of the duck is soft. I think 1/60 is too long for an effective 400mm focal length, even with IS. f/5.6 is going to be limiting in less than daylight. That pic of the building looks pretty good though.

i am a recent owner of this lens (and a recent dslr convert...and a new member to this great forum). i am trying to figure out how to post images (any sticky?). what kind of pics do you want exactly? at 250mm? and is there like a tutorial on how to make a 100% crop and post it here? sorry for the 'noob-ness' but i do want to contribute something.

Here's the image posting rules FAQ: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511

Images that demonstrate the strengths or failings of the lens are welcome, and even "average" shots. The idea is just to have a central place where members can see what the lens can do.
It's best if you include EXIF data, either stored in the image, or added to the post, and note any post processing done, such as sharpening. 100% crops are achieved by selecting an area of say 400 x 400 image pixels (so that is 400 x 400 displayed pixels at 100% display) and saving that as a separate file and then uploading it. There's probably a better description of how to do this somewhere.

Check out the other image archive threads to see how they work. Theres' a sticky at the top of the forum page with links.

I purchased this lens for my fathers birthday which is later this month, however, I gave him the lens yesterday as an early gift.

He uses an EOS 350D and he seems pretty happy with the results - He has a Flickr (external link) page where he's uploaded a few images - Below are some examples taken from his recent upload;

It seems that the lens is very sharp from f/6.3-f/8.

one of the reviews on this lens said it was less than stellar capabilities coupled with the 350D, but the below shots sure look excellent to me.

EDITED: ok so i was in the photo store today, and decided to pick it up. 299.99 same as B&H.

Hope to have some shots later this weekend to post.
