Default Which way do you store your camera in your Camera Bag?

Over the years, I have religiously placed my camera "flat" when storing in my camera bag. Additionally, I always support the attached lens with the camera bag insert (or foam).

In discovering this POTN Web Site, I notice alot of people place their camera in their bag "lens down" (vertical). This method has always concerned me, as it may but stress on the lens / lens mount.

Just curious of other people's thought on the way they store their camera.

Maybe I just baby my equipment too much

I used to take the lens off every time and set it in there flat as well...

Not anymore, I now put it in my bag lens down.

i insert another thick lowepro devider in the bottom, but the cap on, and that's it. i think that's enough for me to rest my mind unless my legs get tired and i have to sit on the bag

Lens down when i am working out of my bag.

However when travelling etc i will generally place them bottom down.

But to be honest, i think you baby your camera too much! But so do i!

Lens flat down but I have a little divider with a flap that acts as an anchor for the grip, I have the nifty fifty smugged behind the divider . It all works out.

Count me as a "vertical" guy. I keep my lens on the camera with the hood in the shooting position so all I have to do is grab the camera, remove the lens cap and start firing. My walk around lens is the 24-70mm f/2.8L, so I need about 10" to store my 40D with the lens hood in place. It is much more convenient this way and I feel much better about not carrying the camera body without a lens on it. I figure the fewer times I have to remove the lens from the camera the better with respect to dust and other debris getting to my sensor.

Lens down in all three of my bags. There's some nice soft padding under the front of the lens in each case and while I've wondered if the pressure on the lens barrel will damage it it sure hasn't in the last few years.

In my shoulder bag (7MDH), always lens down.

However it fits. Mostly lens-down, but often horizontal (body in portrait orientation) with a long lens on.
