Default boring little fly

see lots of these small/med black flies on the railings by the pond at work. I tend to assume most normal looking flies of this type are Muscidae, maybe this being Hydrotaea genus but i'm awaiting ID on Diptera.info (bit embarrassing asking about a common fly but nice to be sure).

they are about 4-5mm, dark and without any interesting characteristics.

Its been quickly ID'd as being of the family Anthomyiidae - shows how little I know. Jorge from Portugal - one of the great fly IDers cooly states it seems anthomyiids are everywhere today. : . Glad I didn't suggest muscidae on that forum!

Flies may seem boring to some because there are so many, but, shots like these of such high quality and detail really makes them stand out. Excellent work on this one, very sharp.

Good shots Toby, DOF does look a bit narrow, but not overly so. Prefer #2 as the fly stands out better against the background than in #1. I got an interesting fly last weekend, but busy on new website won't be posting any new images for quite a while
