Nice first try! I would suggest that with a fast moving subject like humming birds increase your ISO to at least 400, instead of the 100 you used. It will allow you to increase your shutter speed. Also these shots have to dark a background the bird blends into it.

Personally I would go in real tight and see what it looks like. But I would crop from the original.

It's nice to see hummers again. Ours have been gone for months. How close were you to them?

You were using the 200, at 200mm. So I assume these are full frames shots, the first ones? Well, then starting from the full size image, you should be able to crop real close and end up with a 800x527 image of just the hummer. Check out my slideshow here, these were about like yours before I cropped them. If they are sharp to start with, you can do it.

That's more like it on size, or what I do anyway. Now you need to get the lighting right, and focus. It takes practice, and I have often used flash.

But man, you live in hummingbird heaven. Put out some feeders and scope out where is the best angle for them and where you can shoot from for the best lighting and go for it. You have several species, and all year round. We have one species, and it's here maybe 4 months out of the year.
