Default Red Velvet Mite

Finally had a warm day so i went on a hike. Found a few more insects than I had expected. This may be a red velvet mite, but oddly enough I didn't think we had these in the North East US.

thanks for the comments guys. This thing was actually the size of a common tick. So I would say it was around 5mm +. Maybe this is the Giant species?

Another excellent shot Cyrpto - very sharp and plenty of detail. Surprised at it being 5mm, the few that I've spotted were only 1-2mm at most.
