Can one of the admins of this thread add a link to the 7D mark 2 firmware download page to the first post of the thread? Thanks.

Added 7D2, 1Dx2, 5Ds, and 70D and 80D..
Thanks for the reminder.

And as mentioned in the "they love to make life hard" preface on the first post, both Canon Japan AND Canon USA have dumped the once handy front page with the master list.. :( Why?

1DXII Firmware update

https://www.usa.canon.com ...QH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25 (external link)

The Version 1.0.2 firmware being released at this time is for cameras with Firmware Version 1.0.0. The new Version 1.0.2 firmware incorporates countermeasures for a phenomenon in which the bottom part of still images recorded to SanDisk CFast cards can become corrupted. It also enhances communication reliability between the camera and CFast cards. Photographers who have affected CFast cards should format them in the camera after installing the new firmware. Installing the firmware update takes approximately six minutes.

Hi. The 500D (Rebel T1i) is a good, reliable camera. I think the problem may lie with your cards. The maximum card size is 32gb, but this is for SDHC cards, the T1i is not compatible with the latest SDXC cards - check what you have. If you have a suitable card, try formatting (use low level format) in the camera before use. This usually resolves such issues.

If you have some corrupted files, the most reliable card recovery software I have used (I have used many) is called PC Inspector, and best of all it's free. But be careful not to continue using the card - especially don't add any new images - until you have recovered your images.

If you are still having problems, first of all try a smaller card that is known to work in a different camera. If this doesn't work in your T1i, then you most likely have a hardware problem. It's very unlikely that a firmware update would have any effect on this.

Just an FYI, when doing firmware updates. Take out the battery and teh watch battery out after doing the update. Had a scare earlier today where my body wouldn't stay on after I did the update because I also hadn't removed the watch battery. Taking that out helped immensely.

Removing the "watch" battery (as you call it) isn't necessary for a firmware update, and on some model cameras it can't even be done. The amperage drain from the watch battery is extremely small and the slightest amount of corrosion to the battery or its contacts can give you issues. Simply removing the battery and reinstalling will clear up these issues. By corrosion I do not necessarily mean something you can see, it can simply be a very slight film from storing a camera in a vinyl bag that is degassing.

Firmware 1.1.0 for the 7D2 also enables a setting that commands stm lenses to retract any extended focusing elements when the camera is switched off. Just need them to do the same for the 7D1!

I only wish the 7D Mk2 firmware would have enabled the top LCD screen meter in Manual mode:

Canon 7D Mk2 - Exposure Level Indicator - doesn't show on top LCD screen in Manual mode

...maybe next time?

Your SL1 link is broken. Here is a link to the UK page for the 100D (aka SL1), where you will find the recently (Sept 2016) updated firmware v.1.0.1

Canon have update the firmware for the 5D Mark III to 1.3.4

http://www.canon.ie ...redetailid=tcm:24-1496906 (external link)

Doesn't appear to do much, quote;

1. Corrects a phenomenon in which when using the camera with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to "Enable", correction will not be applied.
