5d Mark IV 1.0.4 out!

https://www.usa.canon.com …subtab=downloads-firmware (external link)

Changes in the Firmware
Firmware Version 1.0.4 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:

1. Fixes a phenomenon in which a red-colored area may appear at the bottom-center of a captured image when shooting in bulb mode or during a long exposure.
2. Fixes a phenomenon in which the autofocus may not respond when the autofocus is initiated via pressing the shutter button, the AF-ON button or the AE lock button when configured in the custom control menu.
3. Enhances the reliability of communications between the camera and SD card.
4. Fixes incorrect wording on the Finnish language menu screen.

Firmware Version 1.0.4 is for cameras with firmware Version 1.0.3 or earlier. If your camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.4, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
When updating the firmware of your camera, please review the instructions thoroughly before you update the firmware.
The firmware update takes approximately 4 minutes.

Yea I saw some people claiming this was all bug fixes and there would be another release with all the 4K enhancements and all. I don't know if i see that happening.

To be fair CR did tell us to expect a small bug fix release first, to be followed at some point by the big one.

There is a reason Canon Rumors has that second part to the name. I don't follow them much, are they ever right?

Was checking for firmware updates and noticed that there is a newer 7D2 firmware out:

EOS 7D Mark II Firmware Update, Version 1.1.2
https://www.usa.canon.com …subtab=downloads-firmware (external link)

Not much added, just a fix for an issue when using the Canon WiFi adapter.

A few years ago Canon added to option to update the lens firmware to all new Canon lenses being produced. The update is done exactly the same way the camera firmware update is done.

The the EF 40mm STM, EF-S 55-250 STM, and EF 24-105 USM II are the only lenses I know of that have had firmware updates issued. There are probably others....

EDIT: I have set up a sticky like this one in the lens section so we can keep track of lens firmware updates:

Hey Mike, good idea.

Would you be willing to take it on?
Start the thread and send me a PM with the link and I will make it "sticky"
It'll be up to you to come back and edit it with new firmware releases. If you start it, you'll have editing access.

Before everyone gets too excited, it's very important to read the firmware release notes - the updates for EF-S 55-250 STM, and EF 24-105 USM II are ONLY for use with M series cameras, to improve AF speed. In the case of the 55-250 the release notes advise anyone wishing to update for use with any other camera should contact Canon.

The 40mm STM update dates from 2016 - I wasn't aware of this, so thanks! I will be updating mine, though I haven't had any problems.
