Default Approaching Cafe with topical prints

Hi,

I was in the cafe of a local butterfly house today and noticed that the photo's they have on the wall were straight out of the local pound shop. So my wife has suggested i try to sell them some prints.

I was thinking of selling their customers some prints instead, by placing my framed prints on the wall with price tags on and giving the cafe a cut of whatever they sell.

So i have the following questions:
  • How big should i go with the prints?
  • How much should i charge?
  • What cut should i give the Cafe of the Profit made?
  • Do any of you think this idea sucks ?
Richy...

(Edit: they would be butterfly prints i should have mentioned... )

I might try 2 sizes, framed and matted...

Maybe a bunch of 5x7s for the cheap folks, and 11x14 for the big hit sales.

Charge a lot, and offer to give maybe 25% to the shop.

MAke sure the frames and mats are of a high quality. you don't want a junk frame to devalue your awesome shots.

It is a good idea. free photos for the cafe, and advertising for you. I have seen it done before, successfully. I will say... dont get your hopes up for selling 20 per week... you might sell like 5 a year. it all depends on the customers and the environment.

haha, good luck! I did the same thing. I brought in 4 prints framed. all 8x10 prints. and then if I sold one I would have covered all of my costs plus $10. so I didn't sell them for much. And so far i have only sold one since last fall.
I would find out how big of prints they would be willing to have on their walls first before you go and get large prints.

also, a friend of mine always suggested to me that larger prints are always more impressive. well, good luck!
oh, and idk what to give as a cut to them. maybe ask them? wouldn't hurt, unless you want to make a certain amount of money.

I'm really doing it just as an experiment, I think everyone is happy, they get a risk-free cut, free framed photo's and i may actually sell something, and as long as i cover my costs, i'm happy.

Thanks for advice,

Richy...
