I am just getting started and will be doing different types of events. I have a capable laptop, what else do I need to set up for doing on-site prints. I don't plan on doing anything larger than 8X10's for now. I need suggestions on printers and software that will serve this purpose and do it right. I also will be uploading work for online orders as well. Thanks in advance.

I use photoshop to print all images. I am thinking about getting either a wifi card since I don't like to tethered cable (camera to computer). Someone could trip over the cable and there goes the computer!
I heard a few people use lightroom, digital express, and photoshop. I have a macBook and photoshop element. Color profile (icc) is what I am trying to understand and setup. I have a mitsubishi cp3800 printer (prints very fast). I had several ink jets but they are way too slow. The line of people "waiting" for their pictures to print was ridiculously long. I had to get a faster good quality printer (on sale) from Photo finishers... I got 2 rolls of paper and each roll has 130 prints (grand total) 260 prints. If it's a holiday, each print $10 (8x10), if not, original price $ 17. Great way to make a"mini fortune" on the weekends!

3800 is an excellent printer. Be aware that 9x6 printers as about half the cost of 12x8 printers like the 3800 though, and a LOT cheaper in terms of print cost.

Sorry, I am responding 3 years later. Google Mitsubishi CP3800 and tons of the photos and article of this printer will pop up!
If you own your business, you can write this baby off! However, if you do a couple of events 2 to 4 events in June, the machine will pay for itself twice (then some). 8x10 (most people charge $35)... $25 (only)

8x10 (most people charge $35)... $25 (only)[/quote] HI jackies35 you must be in a vacation spot! If i could get $20 for a 8x10 that would be a good day for me! there are so many people in my area that just bought a camera and printer and now go out and print photos for a peanut butter N jelly sandwich! it seems that even though i am in one of the richest areas of the world people rather spend crazy amounts of money on what they drive or wear, then want a high def photo for .99 cents! so now I have vented, I saving all i can to get that mitsubisi click system i figure i have to do volume as appose to price to make it out here and that means speed/w quality. i had a talk with my oldest son about hearing of that printer and it reminded me of a van we had (we called it "the dinosar") but they have made some componets that just about every other company in the electronics world uses and slaps their own co. logo on it. but till then what i want to ask you is when you tether your camera i do that also usb (till i can get the wireless) do you just use the cannon eos to place it in a file and then pull it up on PS ele. to print and what time frame does that take. I've been using a green screen but that has been for the most part a night mare with so much time for it load up and then people see to many backdrops and they turn into deer looking at the highlights. so now im going with a plain backdrop to speed things up! im sorry for such a lenghty post but anything fast and complete in one software is a little out of my reach right now (mortage comes first) any advise would be deeply appricated! |

I use Shinkos and Express digital software to handle the printing/editing along with PS
The workflow is great nad is hard to beat with high volume printing |

Hahah! No, here in the city on 42th Street - Time Square, there are people (see, I did not say photographers), there are people who are taking pictures of tourist, men, women, or graduates everyday and charging $25 bucks for 8x10 or 2 for $40. I have a great full time job so I can't do this but if I was unemployed (thank God I am not), I would have purchased a cart, battery or generator with a permit, my macbook pro, and hit the street. I would have "Rock-Sales" by selling the image for $20. It's not like I would be shooting raw and have to spend hours editing. It would be every 3 to 4 minutes CLICK! Next! hahaah But again, that's on 42th Street and the people their don't called themselves photographers (well, 3 of them did). The just click the camera, put the card in the reader, and print with inkjet printers! Total time per customer 5 to 7 minutes. Now for your question [What i want to ask you is when you tether your camera i do that also usb (till i can get the wireless) do you just use the cannon eos to place it in a file and then pull it up on PS ele. to print and what time frame does that take?] I could tether the camera to the cmputer so that the images appears immediately. PSE is already open so, I drag and drop it in there. I am looking into building an automated "action" to color correct the image. Currently, I click auto level and correction and 92% of the time it great. Other times, I want to scream! hahaha It takes no more than 2 to 4 minutes. If the image is good, the client will buy it. If both images ( i take 3 shots) are all good, they want it all. The mitsubishi is very light compared to others (30 lbs - get a cart). however, there are two new ones that are out now. You might have to go and google this. DNS 70 and Sony Snap which is probably lighter and easier. Double check everything before buying! Do you live here in USA?? OK. Good luck and God bless you!

@ jakies35 well I was close and yes i'm right up the road from 42nd street! as a matter of fact I just drop off almost 1k to BH thurs. for some gear (but thats a mere pentance for them) i am using the cannon EOS sometimes it get a little stuborn as i have to turn off the camera to save battery time (till i can get the ac power) I have seen those people and there are quite a few of them out there. that is difinetly call impluse buying to take a shot of someone without a decent backdrop (was told they aren't supose to shoot toward any buildings) and then slap a magazine cover border and people tossing $25+ for that! "ONLY IN AMERICA" LOL! I had a bad experince up in harlem last year so i have become very selective in who and where I will setup. I'm new to this forum so i have to get all my websites posted and some other info. but I have my eye on a kit I just pray I can get the $$ soon I have a big once every three year event, and speed will make or break me! talk with you later God Bless!
