Default Strobists -- need help reverse engineering a photo

Hello

For class, I must produce a photo on nature this week. Instead of doing the macro flower thing, I wanted to do something different -- and our teacher loves creative interpretation of his assignments.

Anyway, I want to take a shot at the second photo in this post from strobist of the water coming from the faucet.

http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/05...-courtesy.html

However, my results have been poor.

My question -- does anyone have any advise? also, what is a low-flow faucet? Is that a certain type of faucet, or is it just running at a very low rate?

Thanks!

I believe low flow faucets are the standard in most homes in the US today - they limit the amount of water to 2 GPM or less. They also have a screen filter in them that aerates the water which I would think is what you see in that image. The short duration flash is just stopping the water droplets as they come thru the screen filter.

I have a faucet on my kitchen sink that can be set to normal flow or streaming flow (flowing like from a shower head) and I could replicate the sample Strobist picture (with the individual drops) only with the faucet in the streaming flow mode. If your kitchen faucet can't do this, maybe you can take a picture of water flowing out of your shower head.

I have the same type faucet in my kitchen. Made it nice giving the baby a bath in the sink. I need to try to replicate the strobist shot. That was nice.

It's kind of hard to tell you what to do without seeing what you are getting. My only hint about water droplets or spray is that light coming from behind tends to make them more visible than light coming from the front.
