I like the second one very much. I can imagine gremlins appearing from around the tree.

I like the idea of the bridge leading away in the first one. But I wish there was something more interesting to be led to. Perhaps you should keep it to perhaps edit into an interesting background.

Both are interesting pics.

1) Seems flat. Need to boost contrast.
2) Good photo. Should have avoided cutting off half the tree on the right. All or nothing.

OK Thanks for the F/B I see pixie look in the second as well, if i get to re shoot the first i think i will pick a lower perspective.

Yeah you are right about the tree, a deliberate act on my part in PP, i think i will put it back, The reason the contrast is low is becuase they are HDR's.
I think you are right al the same...Thanks

I get this alot with pictures I take, the ones that are tech OK, but lack that "jump out and grab you"...

I have come to terms with it like this. Most of what we see in life doesnt "jump out and grab you" so dont expect most of your pictures to do so either...lol

I always hope for great shots, but am more often then not dissapointed with shots that only recreated what I actually saw. Nothing that "jumped out and grabed me"...lol

So I PP them as best I can and file them with the other pictures from whatever place I was visiting and make them into a slide show with music. Then they all look great!

Keep my chin up and go out the next time hoping for that one great shot on that trip!

Hi Peter,

I'm afraid I might be the first to say bin them . More accurately, I say "bin your edits, and post the originals". The first one has a couple major problems: there's too much blown sky, and the visually dominant tree trunk is too central in the picture, and aligned with the path. Joey ("form") has done a very good edit - the cloning on the top left definitely helps, the contrast on the planks adds interest if not realism, and the colours are richer - but it's still a bit short of the mark.

The second shot lacks depth. It's quite strange, and I think a side effect of your pre-processing. To me, the apparent depth in front of the fence seems very compressed, and beyond the fence it's like hitting a wall. This effect may be part of the actual scene, but I suspect it's exacerbated by your post-processing.

Regards, Tony

In the far point there is simply no interesting thing to lead to, and the central tree is a subject of its own besides the bridge, but not interesting; I can't fix that. I also would have preferred to have been able to cleanly clone the right side, but I didn't think I could.

I made it darker and more rich color because that's my personal taste. I also made the leaves a little closer in color to the bridge, giving the whole thing a slight yellow/orange finish to become one piece. The HDR gave the bridge more highlight strength so it served to compliment what I was going for.

It's not a bad shot, but it lacks the final interest. I would prefer no sky, or no blown sky.

In the second, I think that the ladder could have been a point of interest if the angle and foreground were handled just right.

now that is some amazing PPing!

but in my mind it has been taken too far for me to call it a picture "I" took. Some people dont this mind amount of PPing and there certainly is nothing wrong with it...

but too much change for my style...

But what an amazing job of showing what a little PPing can do, just wow!

That first shot looks very very similar to a bridge in a park in Vermillion, Ohio that my wife and I go to a lot. I've shot a great number of pictures of that bridge and always end up with the same thing as you here...some how it just never seems to work. When you're standing there looking at it, it's amazingly beautiful in it's simplicity but as a picture...there just always seems to be something missing. Always feels like it needs a "couple holding hands" or something.

Anyways, sorry if that's not much help but know at least that you're not alone.

Peace,
Jim
