Default I am sans camera

I've been putting this off for a while now, but today I bit the bullet and packed up my XTi and EF 28-135 and shipped them both off to Irvine. Something's wrong with either the lens or the camera, as the IS starts buzzing at random intervals. Well, you say, it's obviously the lens. Except it does this when the camera is turned off. And said camera doesn't always turn off--it stays active occasionally after I flip the switch. And if I really, really want to make the lens go nuts, I open the CF card door. On or off, it makes no difference--the IS will buzz until I shut it.

I really, really hope the fault lies with the camera, since it's still under warranty. The lens was second hand. But Canon wanted me to send both so they could replicate the problem.

All of that's just a long winded way of saying I have no camera now and it's not the most pleasant of situations.

I've a whole family of cameras, but it always feels 'naked' when even one of them is away.

Yeah, I do feel somewhat naked without it. Our little Fuji Finepix just doesn't do it for me anymore. I've actually found myself looking at second hand XTs and 20Ds online, thinking "That'd make a good backup..."

I had this exact same thing happen with my 28-135. They replaced a circuit board in the lens and the problem was solved. I found my issue because the battery kept dying even when turned off.

gjl711, ack! That's what I was afraid of. The camera's under warranty, but the lens ain't. What'd re-chipping the lens run you?

Good luck gjl711.

Hey, I was just down the road from you last weekend - Hollywood Park. Nasty hot, especially for an outdoor wedding.

Thanx, but this was months ago. Canon resolved the problem and the lens has worked flawlessly since.

Me too, mine went in for pending shutter failure and other issues. Got 5 games over the next two weekends, can't decide whether to rent, buy used, or just watch the games.

Yay! The Canon site says my camera's all fixed and will be heading back my way this coming week. Didn't cost me anything, either, so double yay!

It seriously sucked not having it around.

If you get a 20D though, the XTi will quickly become your backup body .
