Battery charging...

Is it detremental in any way to partly charge a battery

I am referring to batteries for a 40D....

I don't think they behave like the older nicad. Nicads should be fully discharged and then recharged.
The newer batteries don't have this restriction. The only thing is the number of times you charge them, I believe they can be recharged 'x' number of times. So any charge counts, whether it's full or partial.
