Default Ai Servo AF and 6.5 fps, will camera continue to focus during the 6.5 fps?

Was using Ai Servo mode with my new 400 5.6 at the dog park and was wondering. Let's say a dog is running towards me and I"m holding down the button to focus (using custom function, focus on "AF-On" button).

Using burst mode at 6.5 frames per second, during those shots, if the dog is getting closer to me, will the camera keep focusing or will those burst mode frames only be in focus what what the last focus point was before took the first frame? Thanks

You cannot answer with a "yes"! It is a either or question! Sorry but know the answer myself!

It will ONLY hit 6.5 FPS if focus is maintained, if it loses focus and needs to lock on again, be some reduction in FPS.

AI Servo will attempt to keep focus moving.

Sorry, I guess I read the question too quickly and didn't read all the way thru. I meant Yes it will continue to focus.

Well...not necessarily. It depends on how you set-up the AI-servo parameters...Selecting drive priority in the CF menu will havethe camera fire away without securing focus lock first.....right?

Google is your friend...

http://photonotes.org/other/ai-servo.html

http://www.shutterfreaks.com/Tips/CanonAIServo.html

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=81536

I think it's also discussed in your manual.

On all bodies or just 1D bodies? I don't remember seeing this CF option on my 40D.

Since I don't think you, nor the OP, have a 1D series camera, the dependency on the C.Fn setting will not apply to you guys. The camera will try to continue focusing between shots in burst mode. But even if the subject is not in focus, the camera will continue to shoot the subject anyway.
