Can the Canon 40 d (10.1 MP) image print (photo quality)? I have heard 16x20... Has anyone done any larger?

I've done a 16x24" from my IR 40D (250dpi) and it looks quite nice. I don't see too much of a difference between it and the 8x12" print, until I look at less than maybe 10 inches or so. It wouldn't sell for fine art, nor would I try, but it looks good, and those not into photography (who don't nitpick everything like we tend to!) seem to love it.

On a low ISO, sharp image you could do a 30x20 (~130dpi), although I wouldn't want to look at it from less than a couple feet. A 24x16 (~163dpi) would probably be a more realistic limit.

Have a look at the printing and enlargement FAQ I wrote. I did a 50" print from a 5D shot at ISO800, it looks great.

I did a 16x20 from my 350D that got delivered today. Looks great. Original file was pretty sharp, low ISO as well. It looks sharp from about 8 inches +. I think I could probably print 20x30 with my 350D and it would look fine from 2-3 ft away.
