Default Light painted cars, take two! Subaru Liberty

My second attempt at light painting cars. I think still a bit of inconsistency, but much improved over my first attempt!

Rest of the shoot here.

Nice pics! What did you use for lighting? A highpowered flashlight?

They look so surreal to me! They're really neat pictures, good job!

I used a LED workshop light. The colour imbalance you see, is because the light is probably a good 9000K temperature

lol - that was my decision tool, STi or Liberty GT. I went with the Liberty because it's so much more refined than the STi, at the cost of the rough edge of performance.

Hmm.. I just realized you were in Australia and didn't realize you guys over there call that Subaru a Liberty. Over here in the US, it's called the Legacy. Nice cars, though.

Yup, it's called the Legacy in every market other than Australia, it's called the Liberty hereout of respect for Legacy Australia, an organisation which aids veterans and their families during and after wars.

*shrug* the grass is always greener on the other side... people here wants Legacy badges, people in the States want Liberty badges...

you say tomato, I say tomato...

Australia has wars?

It's like that with every car though.

People here with Acura RSX's want Integra badges
Mazda3 aka Axela
The list goes on and on

Overall a good series. I like #1, 3, 6-8. #2 with #1s background would work for me, too. (Hate # 4)

Thanks #4: black cars are a nightmare to lightpaint because they don't really reflect light. They always turn out looking surreal... silver and white are much more forgiving

Great shots.

Can you tell us more about how you took them, would like to have a go myself.

What gear did you use?

To be honest the photography gear is irrelevant - it was all long shutters, at f/8 through to f/11 depending on the colour of the car. Almost every lens is sharp at this level you'll need a good tripod though.

I had a LED workshop light in a softbox and just went around, painting the car as I saw fit.

Oh, and remember to wear black, or else you'll show up in the end result and remember not to point the softbox at the lens or else you'll get white streaks!!
