Default CP-E2 performance at 8.5fps

I'm thinking of getting one of these for next football season. Anyone have one?

If so, how does it handel the 1D at say 1/1 or 1/2 and 8.5fps?

I usually probably shot at 1/8 or 1/16 but i'd like to be able to shoot at lower ISO's and maintain a high frame rate.

I don't think you'll get much more than two flashes per second....

In other words.. burst is not a good choice... regardless of FPS.

A big downside to using flash in burst mode is you must allow 10 seconds or so between bursts for the flash to cool. You can miss a heck of a lot in 10 seconds.

There is usually 20 seconds or so at least between football plays.

According to the 550EX manual (page 44), you can safely fire 15 flashes at 1/1 or 1/2 before it overheats. At 1/8, the flash count goes up to 20 continuous flashes and at 1/16, 40 continuous flashes. Now, this is the maximum number of flashes that can be fired. That, however, doesn't mean that you'll be able to fire them at 8.5fps. To get a better idea of the flash frame rate, take a look at page 122 and extrapolate the information you need from the table. As CDS said, I don't think you'll be able to get more than 2 or 3 flashes per second at 1/1 or 1/2 although at 1/16, you probably will be able to get 8.5 fps. But then, the action will have to be pretty close up.
