Kind of a bummer that the two bodies got lumped togehter in this thread,
We have a running 1D mkIII thread already,.

But just because of that nagging, ya gotta do me a favor, tell me what I'm doing wrong here.
100% crop, 1/80 @ f/13, ISO 800, 300mm f/2.8---it doesn't have that... vibrant, crispy appearance that the rest of you guys cough out.
I assume the noise is due to the crop, right/wrong?
Crop and full size for comparison. Oh...please disregard the dock trash.

My guess...the shot looks underexposed. I would try to expose more to the right. Also 1/80 at 300mm!, any move by the bird or if your hand holding this shot would make it tough to get a sharp image.

Won't argue about exposure, but I used a tripod (without remote).
What SS would have been appropriate in a situation like this?
