Just got mine back after a service at canon. Oil leak and had to have the filter removed off sensor and both cleaned as oil got traped along edge and dust bunnies by the 100's caught.

There was a recall over this issue.

So after 7 year shooting with canon having 1 issue is not to bad.

This is what I was getting. 100% crop of the left hand side about 5 mm in.

They told me the free service ended 2010 ....... I told them a few choice words. So they agreed to service for free if oil found. It was free

I had photos from 2009 that showed a blob on the photo. At the time I thought it was a water drop on lens. Nothing then it just dissapared a few frames latter forgot all about it.

Changed my PP style and the dust bunnies showed up really bad so mate and I cleaned the sensor and made no difference, thats when I got in contact with canon.

So I guess that blob was the excess oil on sensor filter then it just moved and slowely crept between sensor and filter takeing dust with it.

Some got a couple more drops of oil on the shutter which then "leaked"

If it hasnt leaked by now it wont is basically what they said to me

She was shooting with a Nikon D3s + 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II killer combo!!!
