Nikon D700 rumors / hoax surface

Looks hoaxy to me, but if true would get me off the 5Dmk2 waiting bandwagon and would pair nicely with the D300 I'm toting in addition to my 20D...

I already have one. My biggest problem now is deciding which camera to use each day.

Let me see... should I use my 5Dmk II, 3D, 7D, or my D700? Ah, life is good!!!!

Canon announced a similar camera too ..... 3 years ago, was called the 5D.

Actually no. This is 5fps. D300 AF etc. It this comes out before canon does something, I expect more Canon shooters to jump ship.

They aren't slowing down, that's for sure. Good on them. The 5D II needs to be GOOOD. Just hitting the mark isn't enough for Canon now.

Meh. It will pretty much be the 5D with better higher ISO, faster FPS, and a lot of 1-series features........wait a minute....that is freakin' great!

Come on Canon and smack a good one with a 5DMII!!!!!

Once again I think Canon is screwed. If the bring out a D700 killer (ie. FX, 29pt AF, 5-6.5fps, etc) then it will eat into the 1D series. If Nikon does this, it will smash Canon. Nikon has done great at taking the low end, and the mid range, and they did it smartly.

We will have to wait and see how Canon responds. Question is! Has Canon gotten to big to develop quick responses?

Yea but Nikon is only smashing the tiny high end market. Still we can hope for some price wars if the D700 and 5D II are presented at photokina.

Looks like Nikon is raising the bar once again. Hope Canon got the message and is planning to come out with a killer 5D-II. It will be very disappointing if it’s a 40D with a FF sensor.

You know what, when Canon saw the D3 and D300 launch they decided to
redo the 5D II .. now we're approaching the launch of the D700 and Canon
has to redo the 5D II again ... haha!

Cool! The competition should get Canon moving on the 5DMk2, but I just bought a 5D and the price of a 5DMk2 probably won't be "reasonable" until the time when everyone's screaming for a 5Dmk3

Hmmm, better get cracking with the 5D II Canon!

This new Nikon seems to be the news that many have been waiting for, Including 5D owners. However, the problem is there is a huge lack of decent, reasonably priced full frame AF-S glass that will be able to go with this body.

There is the recently released 24-70 and 14-24, but if you can afford to stump up the money for those two, a D3 would be no problem at all...

Also, the Dpreview review of the 70-200 showed it's not all roses when mounted on a full frame camera..

I know this is the wrong thing to think, but when I read the rumors the first thing I thought was, " Well, the value of my D300 has tanked overnight!!"

Erm, D40/D60 mayhap? Nikon is outselling canon in japan at least, they arent just smashing the tiny high end market. with a d40, d300 and d700 lineup I fully expect nikon to be on top in a year or 2 as nikon has this silly habit of giving customers what they want in bodies. WHo would have ever guessed that would work as a marketing strategy.

"Nikon is expected to be Japan's DSLR market leader for 2007 says a leading Japanese market research company." which I believe became the case. If nikon ends up with a d700 in their lineup and its as good as the D3/d300, Canon is going to be hurt even if they do drop a 5dII as it will probably be a 'rehash' of the 5D.
