I would like to start by telling you I really like this image. Then I have a bitty little tip that I hear all the time, but did not use until this edit. I have the privileged of working with Kevin Kubota. I am often out at workshops, digital photography schools and camps. I have over and over again seen this formula

F=LR2

What it translates into is the time spent fixing is directly proportionate to the degree of lost realism. I guess what he is trying to say is that we should allow imperfection. I think this is especially true in this image. The scrapes and red marks actually add to the character of the image.

I edited this image with that formula in mind. I used Kubota Actions on the image. I used "Too Blue daylight Tungsten" from V1, then backed it off to about 50%. I used "Digital fill flash" V2 on the eyes and skin. I used "Smokeless burn" V2 to paint in a vignette. I used "Amazing detail finder" on the eyes to make them a bit sharper.

Hope you don't mind

Holy smokes!! I am new to dslr and to see what can be done with editing tools is amazing...

Racecar, NOT bad at all...I would agree with leaving the imperfections in the face and just accenting other areas and sharpening up the overall photo...

i dont know. i dont really agree about the red marks and scratches on his face. i like them removed better for some reason. but i do like the way your edit brought out more details in his eyes and the skin looks like a more natural color than my own edit i think. but the other tools you used put a slight halo around his elbow and different parts of his body.

why is is so tough to get replies on this web site sometimes?
its like you cant get any feedback unless you image is mind blowing.

I hate to say it, but I think the photo is too soft to be printed. Amberlark's PP just makes it look to overdone, and fake. Her color is the best of the 3, but to make it look sharp just isn't working. It will look even softer in an 8x10, I would say scrap it. If you want to get into photography, you don't want friends having pictures on their walls to show everyone if they aren't the best you can do, ya know?

I agree that it is most likely too soft, but it is a cute pic and a fun edit. Maybe it never makes it to a wall, but it is a nice capture. Even if you don't have all the techy stuff down it is still important to practice the "boom" moments. Those moments when you know you have a good shot regardless of the camera settings. Keep up the good work!
