I spent a week visiting my father in Connecticut (I live in CA), and in preparation for the trip I looked into abandoned locations to explore in the area. I was surprised that he lived not too far from one of the most amazing locations in the northeast US, if not the country, Norwich State Hospital...a former asylum. The place is vast, about 500 acres, with many buildings that have sat vacant for 50 years or more in remarkable condition (very little tagging, broken windows, etc). This is in large part to the active security there, which I thankfully managed to avoid contact with.

It was by far the most intense, exhausting, thrilling, scary and rewarding exploration I've ever undertaken. Visually the place is overwhelming at every turn.

Here are a 8 of the shots:

It might look like I did a lot of color enhancement on some of these, but I didn't do much. A lot of the rooms had greenish light because of the ivy growing over the windows.

Excellent Series. Amazing textures due to decay. Well Done!!!

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for the replies! I didn't realize the limit here was 8, I had to pare my post down. Is it OK to post more in this thread?

Too cool....

Curious, how many shots did you take for the HDR image in #5 & #6?

Love the horror of them, No8 in particular. Something about No.11 keeps drawing me back but I don't know why.

11 is soooo creepy. It looks like your looking straight down into a tunnel but the chair is sitting flat...Took me a minute to get my barings on that one or maybe Ive just been in this chair to long today. I would love to shoot a place like this. You did an excellent job, great compositions.

I hate phony-looking so-called HDRs. These are examples of what HDR is SUPPOSED to be! Excellent!!
