Have been working on my home studio with still alot of work to do. The room is 12x27 with the studio on one end and the office area on the other. I will be looking at a lighting upgrade and continue remodeling the room itself[painting, carpet, etc]. The other addition this spring will be a door to the outside so clients will not have to enter through the main house. Any comments suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. http://community.webshots.com/album/242274344CyHJTT?664

Mike have the front yard paved and turn it into a parking lot. Think of it, no more grass to cut out front.
On the serious side tho, check to see what the zoning is and if you can run a business out of your home where clients will visit. Some places are very strict about that. Some will allow a home business if less than X number of clients are making a visit to your place. On the parking issue, think about if your doing a family protrait of a family with 7 kids. Only 2 are still at home and all the rest drive. Now you have to have parking for 6 cars somewhere. How will your neighbors feel about having people coming and going? Make sure they know your doing photography otherwise they might call you into the police and say that people are coming and going all the time and they think your a drug dealer LOL. |

Luckily living in sort of a podunk community the zoning laws are no problem and the neighbors are not either as we are a neighborhood that everyone knows everyone else. Kind of like Mayberry. Home buisnesses here are allowed the only restiction is on the sign size.Thanks.

I don't know if this is possible in 12x27.
Imagine the studio at the back. The office is in the middle. Up front, by the door, is the "lobby". The lobby is lined with your best gallery photos. Have something to alert you of the imminent arrival of a client, either before the front door or at the parking spot. So, by the time the client opens the door, you are deep in the studio. You yell from the back, "I'll be right with you." That forces them to wait for one minute with all of those great photos in front of them. Then you come strolling out of the studio to greet them. A white lab coat would be a nice touch. ---Bob Gross--- |

Thats a good idea to work on Bob, I am especially fond of easils and hoping to incoporate 2 or 3 of them in the entrance area. Another possiblity could be a curtain seperating the entrance/office area and the studio. Thanks for your thoughts.
