Default Finally.....Decent shots w/50f1.8 lens!!!

Wow.......I finally managed to get some good photos of my daughter Julia with this little plastic thingy...........I must say that it focuses fairly fast (even though I was using an external flash) but the bokeh leaves a little to be desired. Also, compared to my favourite lens (135f2), I really had to work in PSCS to get the WB ok..........normally the auto setting on my DRebel does a good job. Oh well, I am pleased to say that I'll keep this lens in the camera bag after-all!! Now, can you guess what little Julia had to drink for lunch? (hint......there is some splashed on her new green outfit that you see her in!!) Oh yes, I've been playing around with the infamous SQUARE format. Seems to work most times and gives the photos a different feel. What do you think??

Camera: DRebel (Hacked)

*sigh* She is just divine!!! Beautiful photos. I have this lens on order so do hope I like it.. Can you just clear something up for me - is the square format an option on your camera or just done through cropping? (I feel like I should just have my signature as "pardon my ignorance").

Thanks for the nice compliment!! I'm sure you'll like the lens. I don't use it that often because I find that the weight of the DRebel is really light without a heavier lens on the end. The 50f1.8 is so light that it almost feels like there is NO lens on the camera. But I bought it because EVERYONE said that it's optics are SHARP and it is great for low-light photos. But, I think I will still always use my 135F2 for most shots. The square format is just a PSCS crop (in this case 6 in X 6 in) Looked at some photography books recently and noticed a lot of portraiture in this format (mind you, these were not cropped photos, medium format I think). The look struck me as different and doesn't work with all photos.......don't change your signature.........ignorance is bliss as we say in Canada!! And we are all here in these forums to learn!!!

Those are some nice shots from that lens. But compare to the price of the 135f2 you got to admit the 50 is sure a good deal. I like to use it in the forest condition were lite isn't as abundant. My 28-135 just isn't fast enough sometimes.

I've been using my 50F1.8II more and more lately, and I really find it's a very nice companion to the 135F2L. It really starts to shine at F2.2 and greater.
Those are superb pictures, and I can't believe how fast she is growing!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I must agree with you that for the price, the optics are pretty darn good!! It just seems so 'cheap' in build quality!! Maybe I am getting too used to these L lenses afterall!! I sure my bank manager will like hearing that!!

Drisley: Thanks for the comments!! She sure is growing up quickly........they tend to do that I am told. I just decided that everyone eles is getting such good results, why shouldn't I??!! Today, the 135 is back on the camera though. Did you recognize the splash of Rooibos Tea on the front of her shirt??

Look at those big eyes - she's going to be a heartbreaker! Lovely shots to be proud of.

Good shots... although I disagree about wb and the rebel; it was terrible and never worked for me.

I ALWAYS use a cwb now. Even with the 20d.

Thanks for the comments! Interesting that you find that AUTO WB doesn't work to well. I find that 95% of my shots are just fine with this setting. (This is natural light or flash). Under tungsten, it becomes more tricky and then I usually only shoot in RAW..........I guess some camera bodies might be calibrated better than others. Do you use a grey card when doing a CWB?
