Got home from vacation and whats waiting for me other then a request to shoot a basketball game that night or last night. I chose the one last night
Here are a few. I took a differnt route entirely this time in the way i set up my camera. Usually i'd go for the most ambiant light i could get resulting in a lot of noise. I realized though that this tactic didnt really get rid of the ugly effects of a flash anyways, so last night i was shooting 1/400 f/2.8 @ ISO 400. I think i'll keep it this way ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What area are you from, in Ohio you are not allowed to use flash during games. Great job.

I'm not all that happy with this set, and the more i look at it the more i'm not happy with the flash's look. |

The flash thing is a real dilemma... if you don't lean your exposure towards the ambient light, the shadows in the background can become more prominent... if you do, then the noise starts to take over. If you do carry on at the lower ISO setting, have you thought about one of those Stroboframe flash bracket jobbies? That might help reduce the shadows somewhat by moving the position of the flash. They can be cumbersome to use but you can pick them up for not a lot on e-bay... I've used one in the past for portrait shooting and it had the desired effect... might not be ideal for sports shooting but just a thought... Gavin

I think what i'm going to do is try and shoot at higher ISO's. The bottom line is that the papers just dont matter when it comes to noise. And thats what i'm shooting for.
The good news is that i dont think i'll be in that god forsaken gym again this season. Maybe by next year i'll have some faster glass. |
