Brilliant B/Ball shots! And what lovely lighting you have there, pure jealous ...
Whereabout were you stationed? Corner of the court? I can't wait to try out my 85mm in the next B/Ball game |

corner and 3/4 down behind the rim...2 favorite places with the 85mm, under the rim is good from some tight torso/face action shots but they want the ball, face, number, and shoes if possible in every stinkin photo...so I usually keep a med distance and do my best to fill the frame

Blinking, some of the best Basketball pictures I've ever seen (IMO) have come from you and your 85. Once again, well done.

Nice work as always blinking8s!
Interesting to hear that your publication demands the whole length of the player in all the pics... and I'm envious of the lighting... sooooooooo envious! The very thought of setting my camera to 800ASA at a basketball game makes me drool with excitement! Not a pretty sight! Gavin

Great shoots -- good angles, framing and action.
Do you have a different approach in shooting men vs. women? Until you get to the WNBA level, you don't see much dunking, slashing drives to the basket, and other super-athletic moves in women's games. So ... do you consciously look for other things? I ask because I'm shooting a women's bbal game this weekend. I'll post shots later. |

Mens has a lot more action near the rim. Womens seems to just be violent. I get more mean faced images of girls driving the ball in that anything. But rarely can get a clean photo of points being scored because they all just pile up on top of each other. Most of the points seem to be longball shots from the other side of the key that I cannot capture.
For girls baskeball most of the actions seems to happen between the 3pt line and the key. You get a lot of fouls so if dirty basketball shots are what you are after then you should be in luck. |

For men's basketball, the 85/1.8 stays on the camera to capture those acrobatic and artistic peak action moments. For women I use the 135/2.0 much more - to get in tight for those moments of peak emotional intensity. |
