Default Carolina Mountain Sunrise

Life in the land of the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains can be entertaining for sky watchers.

Beautiful colors Dan, and scenery. Is this natural, filters or PS? I am finding all kinds of new techniques outside the bird forum.

First shot was with a 1Ds and a CPL....just resized for here.
Second shot was with 1Dmk2n no filters....1 stop underexposed and a touch of flare cloned out, then resized for here. The two images were taken about 1 mile apart...and the way mountain roads wind, the view was at very different angles to the sunrise....the colors change pretty radically as your viewing angle changes.

That's just amazing, mother natures filters. Do you think elevation, humidity, air density, stuff like that had anything to do with it?

Absolutely....pollution too.....extremely humid yesterday morning...air quality was in the not so healthy category. We get a lot of particulate matter in the air from the TVA's coal fired power plants.
