I imagine a direct paintball impact would put paint in places where you wouldn't want it, but I don't have any specific experience with the sport. There are several folks around here that should be able to answer your question based on direct experience, but if I were shooting paintball, I'd want insurance for my camera and lens.

for sure! especially that front element haha

ive paintballed a lot, was div. 2 xball, but have never dealt with paintball photography, paint gets places in your gun that you wouldnt think it could get, thinking the same for a camera, i wouldn't be scared with a 1series body tho

I'll chime in here since I used to shoot a lot of paintball. It would take a very direct hit on a button or something to let paint get in. I've had the camera hit a couple of times and it was ok (it was my 20D). I've seen guys use rain bags on the rig to help protect it, that's not a bad ides.

Shooting woods type fields are much harder and you are more likely to get hit. Shooting along side a speedball field, if you know the game, you will just know when to move and where based on where the players move to so you'll get shot at less often. Try to get an orange vest or a REF shirt, that'll help to.

Its a fun sport to shoot so have fun!

Yeah they wouldn't be shooting at you but you know, a guy bumps up to the snake on the far side of the field and starts lighting up the guy at the infalatable in front of you, lol you sort of in the line of fire sometimes. But since you've played you will have a good eye for that kind of thing.

My boy was a hight level player so I've gotten to shoot xball and nppl world cup. It was a blast.

Hi,

A good site for pointers and tips is http://paintballphotographyforums.com/ Gary Baum is the owner of that site I believe and is a very well known paintball photographer. I learned a lot from on there.

As for protection one recommendation I would have is a kata cover/bag, they seem to work pretty well. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...leeve_Kit.html

I think he means the bags that are soft and clear.
If you lens takes a direct hit, it may break. I would suggest using a filter as a stopgap measure against lens hits.
The bag is a good idea. My solution for something very similar was to get an FCS wetbag, cut a hole in the bottom, stick the camera in the bag, attach my lens hood, duct tape the bag to the lens hood, put a neutral filter on the front, and call it a day.

i just recently started taking paintball pics aswell. i would suggest a kata rain bag, which i dont have yet. Also i use a towel and wrap it around my lens just to absorb the hits.
