Default Based in UK? Want to get into Indian wedding photography?

I am getting married in June next year in the West Midlands in the UK, and having a full on indian wedding consisting of pre-wedding ceromonies, the wedding day and the reception, all this will run over 3/4 days.

I would really like to have contemporary/reportage style photos as opposed to the usual box standard indian photography where you are made to do silly poses... i would rather have natural photos where there is little or no eye contact with the camera, and where the photos capture the atmosphere, the ambience, the details, and the romance of the wedding, i think you know exactly what I am looking for... I also have some sites I could show of styles of photography I like.

Now the problem is that since I would need a photographer over a few days, its going to cost me a bombshell.

The Asian/Indian wedding scene is a huge wealthy buisness, and this would open up plenty of further opportunities and expand your portfolio in this area. You would have a great time with all the beautiful colourful clothes, the diversity of people and of course Indian food

My desired result is a CD of all the digital images, with editing - so someone with photoshop skills is essential.

If your interested, please email me with examples of your work and what you would reasonably expect as payment, considering the doors it will open for you

Thanks for reading,
Miss H.

AKA; do you want to spend 32 hours photographing my wedding, then another 5-6 days PP'ing the images, then give me the CD...... all on the cheap, 'cos I'd rather spend my money on other things?

The thought of travelling down there doing the wedding for free showing you the images and then formatting the cards appeals to me

Takes two to tango I reckon

But then if you show contempt it breeds contempt

So you want something great and expensive, you don't want to pay for it, and you think that somehow just showing another photographer those sites that you will get those photos?

If photography is important enough, you'll make it a priority. If it's not, you'll end up settling for something like you're proposing here.

So huge and wealthy that they ask for it for a smaller than usual amount?

Honestly, this whole "shoot my wedding and I promise it will open doors for you!" deal rarely works out for either the photographer or the bride. Find a photographer you like and pay him/her what he/she deserves. I am always shocked when photographers try and lowball fellow photographers...

Bobby

p.s. please write back in a year explaining how you aren't happy with your wedding photos

3/4 days Inc editing and no album - £10k - contact me via my site.

You do the photography profession a diservice with this type of request.

Just pay the going rate and get professional results - or go this route and repent at leisure

Mmmm.. I thought strange request when I read it.. then realised every one else felt the same!!!!

Opening doors?? Me not think so! I did an Indian wedding once, only recieved around £100 and they wanted everything for nothing for a few weeks work - just as you requested actually!

No open doors, no after sales, no thanks.. get the picture?!?I do need more work, but I'll give it a miss if you don't mind!

I'm not sure everyone may feel the same - although of course I could be wrong. Many people on this forum are professionals, and I can see their point of view on the OP's request. Many, however, are amateurs, some of whom are considering moving in to photography for a living, given that they are acquiring/have acquired sufficient skill to do so. Part of acquiring those skills may mean taking on work, or assisting hardened professionals, for little or no return initially. It's a way of earning some recognition (or not!) and finding out if photography is the way to go for a living.

If the OP is prepared to take the risk that such a person does the shoot for her and makes a mess of it - then fair enough. On the other hand a keen amateur may see this as a way in to a market they were unable to penetrate by other means. If only one new contact is picked up in this way, then someone else has been helped out.

Just my tuppence worth - no offence intended to anyone
