Default East Midlands Airport - Sunset

From where I work about 20 miles away from the airport I thought all Fri afternoon the light might get interesting during the evening. Arriving around 6.00pm and it was nothing special, but the period from 7.15 till just after 8.00pm made it a worthwhile trip.

all taken with the 40D and 300 2.8 IS

What was your shutter speed? You stopped a jet engine from spinning.

Great shots!

Went to the Boeing tour in Seattle earlier this week. Somewhere along the way I read that the first stage fan doesn't actually spin that fast, maybe 2,ooo-3,ooo rpm at takeoff. If the UPS was coming in for a landing, it might even be slower.

#'s 4, 5, & 7, look good. Something about the angle of approach, or your angle in which you captured. Interesting pattern on #5. Haven't seen that one before.

Nice set of pics. The warmth of the sunset really shows.

I work in Air traffic and speak to East midlands controllers daily passing inbound estimates, and outbound squawks. Just a shame i never get to see the planes due to being in a radar room on the south coast.

Nice shots!
