Default 430ex as a Macro Flash

Hello;

This probably sounds weird, but does anybody knows if the Stroboframe line offers anything where I can use my 430EX as a Macro Flash with my Canon 100mm Macro lens and the OC-E3 extension cord.

Not sure about Stroboframe...but I've used a Delta bracket (the one w/ the flexible arm) and a Custom Brackets Digital T + 430ex + OCe3.

MT-24ex is the best macro light, but if you can't get that, bracket + speedlite + diffuser + cord is the runner up

Hello Tim;

I think you resolve my issue, one more question are you using the 18" instead of the 7"? I guess the 7" its gonna be a little short for the 100mm Canon Macro right?

No, the 18" delta is waaaaay too long...I was using the Sigma 150 back then and the short one was perfect...here's a shot of it.

Another option is taking almost any flash bracket, detaching the vertical arm and replacing it w/ a small ballhead. Then attach the OC-e3 to that, etc....

Ok, that's great, as Confusius said "An Image means a 1,000 words" thanks again. I really appreciate your time.

Might be of use to point you towards the macro rig thread sticky from the macro section. Spend some time looking through there for setups

I think the delta setup is what most use. If you have the money I highly recommend the MT-24EX. Nothing will beat that, but with convenience and quality comes high cost

He already has the 430EX.

I have had the 430EX for a while and have been using that on a bracket. Just recently got the 580EXII. Yesterday I decided to test them in combo as master/slave - 580 on camera, 430 on bracket - as a cheap man's twinlight. The light was wonderful. Downside - heavier, but I'm tough enough to cope

So if he's already got a speedlight, he might consider getting a 580EXII and do something similar. Cheaper than the MT24-EX, and you can use the combo for much much more.

Hello Troy;

That's my plan, to get the 580EXII in the future, that way with the 430 as a slave I can cover more area.

Thanks again to you all, very very helpfull indeed.

Thats a pretty nice flexy gadget. Curious about the velbon slider if its good or if should try smaller gossen slide. Both seem close in price.

The Velbon super mag slider is a high quality piece for a very reasonable price
