I figured this topic will come up a million times within the next 3 months or so... LOL... So I wanted to be the first to bring it up and stoke some converstation... I think comparing these two cameras is pretty interesting now... Canon has the advantage in resolution and ISO range... and if what they're saying is true with the newly incorporated gapless micro lenses, probably competitive if not superior noise-to-detail with the D300 (again, THAT is to be seen), and I think it has superior 14-bit RAW fps vs. the Nikon... Should be interesting to see how they duke it out now... The Nikon does still have the 51 point AF, but Canon can counter as even the 40D's is faster and more sensitive and the 50D's should be better than the 40Ds.....
Should be interesting to see how Nikon responds!

I second that, the feature set and pricing make it one hell of a deal

And yet I don't see people letting the the fact that the Mk III is $2,000 more than the 50D keep them from recommending that camera to the part time sports shooters. If you are an action shooter, $500 more is nothing compared to the next step up within the Canon line.
And the price difference is $1,399 for the Canon to $1,559 for the Nikon - no where close to $500. Only $160. If didn't have a ton of Canon gear, I would take the Nikon... even being a year older design. I have the 50D, I am happy with it. But starting over.... that would be another story.

Let's all compare a camera which does not yet exist, with the camera which does exist (n terms of availability to the consumer)....
...for subjective handling, ... IQ and freedom from noise at high ISO, ...sound levels while in use, ...and other features that require comparative subjective characteristics!

will Canon ever institute the built-in wireless 'commander' mode into their bodies? i'd like that, actually.

We may wish to see the production version of teh 50d before we go off and start comparisons. I'm sure they will be very close. |

I'm surprised that after the 30D, they didn't release the 36DD Vegas Edition.
