Default ANYONE KNOW ABOUT LCD MONITORS?

I'm trying to figure out what the best specs on LCD monitors are for doing digital photography. I don't know anything about pixel pitch, contrast ratio, cd/m brightness and all the other stuff to make an intelligent decision on a monitor for around 300 bucks, to go with a Mac Mini. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

For around $300 - don't try LCD; the good ones are too small and the big ones are too lousy. A good 19" CRT would be your best bet. There are DVI-VGA adapters if MiniMe^hac only has a DVI port. If you really have to go LCD, you need a high contrast ratio (450:1 - 500:1). Brightness - how bright is your work area - unless it's pretty dim, you'll need a bright (high cd/m value) one. Almost any display in a given size will have the same resolution, and that's all it'll run at - any other resolution is going to get acute jaggedies, so pixel pitch won't be too much of a variable. You might be able to get a decent 17" (1280x1024) LCD for not too much beyond $300. Samsung and NEC/Mitsubishi are probably the better brands around now. If you're going to buy one, buy it in-store so you can look at it live, and make sure you can return it for dead pixels. Circuit City's got a pretty good reputation for allowing that.

I just got a Dell, 17" LCD Ultrasharp, (1280x1024) and I love it. It replaced a viewsonic 19" Cost $314 plus shipping. I don't miss the 19" desk hog at all!
