Ridiculously TACK SHARP wideopen!!! and absolutely beautiful bokeh.

Today I decided to roll the dice and buy one. With my XTI I am having No front or back focussing issues regardless of being near or far from my subject. Did the angled "focus test" with a paper (text) and it focused in the area I focused on. Took pics of AA batteries with a triangular configuration trying to find a flaw. No issues whatsoever!!!

I debated on limiting myself to a "crop" dedicated lens vs buying a 35L. I saved aprox $920 if I bought a 35L + tax. My reasoning for going Siggie was that if I go full frame one day I'll simply use a 50mm 1.4 or go 1.2 since It'll be very similar to the 30mm on a crop body.

If the 35L is significantly better than the IQ I'd be suprised!! I'd say its still well worth the "L" since its good for both crop and FF bodies. When people rave about the IQ of the Sigma I've always doubted it. I'm a believer even after owning this lens for 2.5hrs.

The Canadian warranty is 10yrs for the EX lens. Piece of mind but really probably not necessary..... guess I'll never know or I'll find out.

If you dare to roll the dice this piece of glass will be a wonderful addition to your gear list.

I've taken many shots in the last hour and I'm getting wonderful "pop"

Heres a shot of the box wide open af f1.4 and then a cropped pic. Simply cropped and resized for web.

This lens is a gem and I'm likin' it alot more than my 85 1.8

Just think I was gonna pull the trigger on a 35L ($1359 CDN!!!!) . Yes the 35L is a stunning lens too but I feel cheap right now :) Alot of green in the pocket and happy as heck!!!!!!

Hey, what do you guys mean by, 'good copy' ? Do some of these lens come in less than perfect functioning?

I've tried 8 or 9 and all front focussed. Here's my favourite example - I focussed on the numberplate as a test shot. Grass in foreground is in sharp focus. Goodness I'm glad I've now got the 24L / 35L combo & can leave Sigma behind.....

Yep I'd buy a lotto ticket. I tried 2 in the shop. Both were out of wack. The guy in the store couldn't believe it. At first he thought it was my body, then we tried it out on a body from the shop. Same.. I don't get it. It's not like they are dirt cheap lenses, yet you have to be lucky to get one that performs the way it supposed to.

Great piece of glass. As others have suggested, go play the lottery :) Mine is nice and sharp now. It's only taken 3 trips back to it's Japanese handlers to get that way

Wow Phil,

Thats a brutal example of front focus. I'll try to do more testing but so far every thing I've tried hasn't had any front/back focus. I've taken alot of f1.4 shots and I'm liking everything so far.

That test shot you did is a good "test". I'll try that and see how my little xti does with the sigma.

Good grief 8 or 9 copies!!!!
