Is there any other software that will access the CRW files so as to be able to batch rename and make a contact sheet which can be saved as a file. (For Mac G4)

I believe the Mac version of Bibble is supposed to be adding D30 raw file support. Check it out at www.bibblelabs.com -- sending feedback to them that you want it may help them prioritize the work!

It's already in GraphicConvertor. www.lemkesoft.de GC has excellent batch processing capabilities, for the price.

I will add a bit to Burnet's "extended" response.

No doubt the iViewMedia Pro is by far the best option today for viewing RAW files from Canon. THis feature is available in the most recent versions, 1.5 of ivmp. MAcBibble may add functionalty for CRW files now that the new 1Ds becomes available. For the moment, sit down and wait.

THis app, does a lot for the price. First it has the ability to display in contact sheet form the raw files you drop into the app, either via individual files or folders. All standard features apply, so renaming a file or Batch renaming a entire folder is done via easy commands or manually.
THe thumbnails in the contact sheet are double clickable so you see a somewhat enlarged version . The printed contact sheets are great for handling and archiving purposese as well.

One of the interesting functionalities of this app and I have seen no one else exploit for evaluating files, is that of the conversion into HTML web page. You can go from your raw file into a jpeg version of the SAME file . The resulting html page lets you see in big size( you have to scroll a lot to see the whole image) in your browser of choice all the files from a folder, and this lets you select with more confidence which files you really want to process in the RIC.

There is no other way to see the Raw files in such big size, and I strongly suggest you give this a shot.

Many have stablished their workflow by extracting the jpegs from the Raw files and then working on the jpegs to evaluate the folder of files, and making decisions , but this is an extra(and slow) step in the RIC, and therefore the whole thing is much slower. Also you fill up your Hard disks with more "temporary files" which have to end up in the trash sooner or later, requiring more maintenance steps added to your worflow.

The app is also in use by stock shooters when they intend to develop small (100-200 images) databases for websites, since it retains all the original info from each file, and you can import and export IPTC data to and from files, save a set of keywords for files or folders for search purposes,etc.
Add to this hat IVMP links directly to standard CD burner apps, like Toast to make back up disks of your data, and it includes a copy of the "catalog" of images in the disk , so you can make an easy search for files when you have many CD's with images in your hands.

I have heard also good things of another Mac app called PhotoMechanic, with approximately the same virtues of IVMP,but it is a lot more expensive than IVMP.

I have also tried the Graphic Converter app, but I went back and stayed with IVMP.
