Default kids portraits - 1st attempt w/shoot thru C + C please

I have just got my first shoot through umbrella, so tested it out on the kids with a black cloth for the background. C + C appreciated.

I very rarely shoot with studio lighting, so I'm not the best resource on that. The lighting looks pretty good -- soft and even, but still providing some shadows for definition. The boy's shot looks a tad underexposed (I lose the top of his head into the background), and that white stripe is a bit of a distraction.

While there's also a little bit of the girl's hair getting lost in the background, it works for me in that shot because that's the shadow side of her head, and I expect it to be darker. For the boy, the shadow encompasses the top of his head all the way around to his left, and doesn't seem as natural.

Nice work!

That's great feedback, thank you ibdb. I may try to incorporate a subtle hair light into my next attempt.
