I love her eyes in the second shot. Definitely the cutest of the two.
Honestly, the first one looks a little crazed. It's one of those that looks better viewed in context, or as part of a series. Alone, it looks a little too freaky. Technically, I saw that this was shot with the flash at f/20. I'm guessing that was a safety shift where the camera ups the aperture to prevent overexposure. Try using high speed synch on your flash to avoid such a small aperture. You'll allow more ambient light that way, and avoid the problems that come with such a small aperture.
